Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. Museum of Contemporary Art turns 25
In 2016 Museum of Contemporary Art can celebrate its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion we have invited five Danish artists to delve into our Collection and to relate it to the Museum’s past, present and future. Hannah Heilmann, Kennth A. Balfelt, Claus Haxholm, Rolf Nowotny and Olof Olsson will each draw on different aspects of the Museum which they find relevant today.
The exhibition will explore the Museum’s past through the eye of the artist by showing selected works from the Collection in relation to the five artists own work and performances. As a playful and explorative encounter the exhibition wants to create a dialogue with the audience and to reach beyond the given framework of the Museum. With this simple concept we want to make our Collection present in a way that gives room for new interpretations and understandings.
It will be a fascinating and different encounter with our Collection which also marks a new chapter in the history of the Museum – a chapter with the Museum as a social actor. With the exhibition we want to discuss the role of the museum institution today and how it is likely to develop in the future.
Opening Party: Friday January 29th at 6 pm.
During the exhibition a programme of various events, talkshows and concerts will be organised together with the participating artists.
The Exhibition is curated by Hannah Heilmann (DK), Kenneth A. Balfelt (DK), Claus Haxholm (DK), Rolf Nowotny (DK), Olof Olsson (SE/NL/DK).
Exhibition Concept by Director Birgitte Kirkhoff Eriksen, Curator Tine Seligmann og PhD Fellow Rasmus Holmboe.
